Seo Linn set to play for Ireland
Submitted by isportRock Band, Seo Linn, have been picked to write and perform for the Boys in Green in France ahead of the continental tournament in France.
The official Euro 2016 song for the Republic of Ireland was announced after Football Association of Ireland chief executive John Delaney picked the band to perform the new anthem.
The trad rock band rose to fame after their Irish language cover version of Avicii's 'Wake Me Up' received over five million YouTube views, but came to Delaney's attention after performing at Ireland's Easter 1916 Centenary celebration.
Seo Linn lead vocalist Stiofan O'Fearail spoke of his delight at being asked to perform the official Republic of Ireland track.
“I honestly could not believe what I was hearing, but John had absolute faith in us to come up with a song, which he said should be an uplifting piece for the team as they head to the European Championship tournament,” O'Fearail told the Irish Times.
“This has been a dream come true for us, not just as musicians but as huge supporters of the Republic of Ireland football team. I want to thank John Delaney and the FAI for putting their trust in us and I hope we have given them and the team something that will be a fitting and perfect song for the tournament.
“For us this is unbelievable, to play some part in Irish sporting history, and to have our song heard by millions of Irish supporters around the world,” O'Fearail added on an endnote.
Ireland will play Sweden, Belgium and Italy at the tournament in Group E, in France, in one of the toughest groups. The latest StanJames betting odds reflect the harshness of the group, with ireland being as long as 8/1 to top it.
All money raised by sales of the track will go to the John Giles Foundation and the Capuchin Day Centre.
