ALEX SCOTT COULD BOW OUT AFTER EURO 2017

Veteran in the England female national side Alex Scot has revealed that she could retire from the game after the Lionesses triumph at the Women’s European Championship.

The 32-year old could retire from international football after making her debut back in 2004.

The Arsenal fullback would be hoping to play her 140th game for the national team when England meet Portugal in a Group D game on Thursday. The team is likely to reach the last eight after previous victories against Scotland and Spain.

Scott is hoping she raises her games’ tally even though the coach Mark Sampson could introduce fresh legs in the Portugal match. She is playing in her fourth Euro Championship and her seventh major for the country.

“Obviously I know this is definitely my last Euros. In four years’ time there’s no way I’m going to be around. I want to win gold, which is the only thing I’ve not won with England, and then I’ll reassess my international career after the tournament,” Scott said.

She added that winning gold would make it easier for her to walk away as she has earlier hinted at international retirement this summer. She lost her regular starter role to Lucy Bronze – the current PFA Player of the Year. Bronze is consistent and with her set to be the first choice for years to come, Scott has very limited chances in the team.

The manager Sampson still has faith in her but she does not want to make it very difficult for the coach as her abilities become limited.

“I don’t want to be that person that’s still trying to go, but at the same time I don’t want to be that person that then looks back and regrets walking away from the game too early,” she said.
