Wayne Rooney claims that he is extremely confident that the current England squad will be able to make a major impact at the upcoming 2016 since it is one of the best he has seen since his debut more than a decade ago.

Rooney was one of the few young players in the squad at the Euro 2004 when England once again failed to get past the quarter-finals. For the Euro 2016, however, things are extremely different with a large contingent of young players like Harry Kane and Eric Dyer part of the team.

As England began their preparations for the tournament with manager Roy Hodgson announcing the provisional squad, questions have been asked about the future of Rooney at the international level. For the time being, Rooney does not want to discuss about his situation in the squad since he is ready to sacrifice himself for the team. However, he is looking at the bigger picture and points out to a successful tournament ahead of the England national team since they go in with the best squad he can remember in recent memory. Hodgson has given a surprise by calling up only three central defenders and one of them – Gary Cahill – has given an injury scare during the training sessions.

"I feel we've got a very good squad. It's probably the first time I've felt the squad is capable in any given game of matching any team.But obviously it's one thing having that, and another being able to do that consistently throughout a tournament. You never know with the players we've got how well they can do. We've had a good European Qualifiers campaign, but we need to make sure that we don't slack, that we keep going and keep pushing forward, and give ourselves every possible chance," said Rooney.
