Henderson Ready To Replace Gerrard
Submitted by contentLiverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has claimed that he is ready to replace Steven Gerrard in the centre of the England midfield. The Liverpool captain recently announced his retirement from international football after making 114 appearances in a stellar career. Even though he has failed to make an impact at international level, Gerrard will continue to be revered as one of many important players England have had in the last decade. Due to this importance, manager Roy Hodgson has a difficult task ahead of him to replace the 35-year-old.
Henderson has put forward his name as one of the potential replacements. Since his £ 16 million move from Sunderland a few years ago, Henderson has come a long way. He was initially criticised for his poor performances, but the 24-year-old has now become an integral part of the Liverpool team. He is hoping to replicate the same at international level as well. Henderson was part of the England team at the World Cup 2014. Since making his debut in 2010, he has made only 13 appearances. He is a rookie at international level, but there have been promising signs that he could go on to become an important player for the national team.
Henderson’s rise has come at a time when both Gerrard and Lampard are on the way out.
"Let's face it, you can never replace a player like Steven Gerrard because he's probably the best player this country has ever seen - so yes, he's irreplaceable. I don't think you even necessarily try to fill that void. He is a one-off, I see him every day and I don't think there is any player like him. But what we have to do is develop the young talent coming through, and there is a lot of it. We've got to give them space to go and show how good they are,” said Henderson.
