STERLING BENCHED FOR BRENTFORD GAME
Submitted by contentManchester City star Raheem Sterling was left on the bench for the entire duration of the Brentford game in the Premier League as far as the latest round of games is concerned. The England international was on the bench throughout the game played at the Brentford Community Stadium on Wednesday night.
England attacker Sterling was an unused substitute for the away game with the Bees as manager Pep Guardiola opted to use the players in the starting XIwithout making any substitution till the game ended.
Sterling came into the Brentford game with an impressive record of netting in four straight league games but he was left on the bench by his manager against the Bees with an eye on the Arsenal game billed for Saturday lunchtime at the Emirates Stadium. While Sterling was on the bench, his team did the job required thanks to the first half strike from England national team colleague Phil Foden. Foden scored the lone goal in the 16th minute off the assist from Belgian international star Kevin De Bruyne.
With the slim 1-0 away win over the Bees, Premier League defending champions Manchester City have now won their last ten matches in the competition. Also, the Citizens have a good advantage at the top of the league table as the win over Brentford has pushed them towards retaining their league title though there are still a long way to go to decide the league.
Manchester City are eight points better than Chelsea who occupy second place on the Premier League log at the moment and they are nine points better than Liverpool in third place though the Reds still have a gameto play after their Boxing Day home clash with Leeds United was postponed due to Covid-19 cases and injuries with the Marcelo Bielsa-led Leeds side.
