GHOST GOAL HELPS CHELSEA THROUGH
Submitted by isportAnd so the controversy rumbles on about whether we should have video referees...
Chelsea were playing against Spurs in the FA Cup semi-final, with the score neatly poised at 1-1, with 30 minutes to go. It was both team's last realistic trophy hope, and deserved a better decision. Chelsea had the lower FA Cup odds, but had struggled to make their superiority show.
The ball bounces around the area from a corner, gets struck back towards goal by Juan Mata, hits John Terry about 3 yards off the line, and bounces out again. Cue the referee to blow his whistle and award a goal?!
It was ridiculous, and would have taken all of an extra 10 seconds for the video referees to confirm whether the ball crossed the line or not. As it was, the 'goal' stood, and Chelsea went on to win 5-1.
Shameful.
Mata will now turn his attention to helping Spain beat the Euro 2012 Odds, and become the first team to win back-to-back championships.
