Dean Henderson eyeing the number one role with England

Henderson is currently tied with Burnley’s Nick Pope and Liverpool’s Alisson in the Golden Glove race with nine clean sheets and he is now looking forward to making the Euro 2020 squad with the Three Lions and possibly cementing the number one spot ahead of Everton’s Jordan Pickford, he told: “Hopefully I can nail down a place in the Euros squad first. Being ambitious like I am, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, I’ve got my eyes on the shirt.

“I’ve just got to keep performing, keep doing well and hopefully get an opportunity because you can’t prove anything without an opportunity, then see where we are in the summer. Obviously there are three great goalkeepers. We’ve got a great group and it’s going to be a great battle for the shirt.”

At the beginning of the campaign, Henderson was guilty of making a few mistakes and one of those gifted Liverpool with a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane. However, the 22-year-old has been able to learn from those experiences and as the season has progressed, he has become one of the most efficient players between the sticks.

Henderson will return to Old Trafford when the temporary deal concludes over the summer but reports claim that he could thereafter push for a new challenge. Obviously with David de Gea at United, Henderson is unlikely to claim the number one role and that could contribute to him seeking a permanent move away from the Red Devils.
